A grey Sunday afternoon

Hi everyone,

I am still knitting on my pullover. I decided to make a different back, but in the same colours as the front. I thought that might be nice.

This is the front.

This is the back.

Our daughter took home a hyacinth bulb. A customer at the supermarket, where she works after school, had dropped the package and the glass vase had broken. I have two of these glasses at home, so I was very happy with the sad little bulb. It is starting to grow now.

Last Thursday I found this CD in the supermarket. It was the last one and very cheap. I love Barbra, I think she is a fantastic singer. I haven't listened to it yet, because we listen Christmas music after the 5th of December, because of the celebration of Sinterklaas.
I am sure it will be great.

I hope you are all enjoying your day.

Hugs

A little update. I found out that there is going to be another Advent scarf this year.
Here is the link:

There is also a Ravelry group:

Baking day

Hi everyone,

Eventhough I had my fast day today, I made two cakes. Tomorrow we have the repair club and I promissed to make something to go with the tea and coffee.
With my birthday money and gift certificates, I bought a book with recipes and the baking form that goes with it. It is called The Zeeuwse knoop (Zeeuwse button). "Zeeuwse" comes from the province we live in: Zeeland.

This first cake is a normal recipe. 250 gram real butter, 250 gram fine sugar, 250 gram selfrising flour, some vanilla sugar, some citrus juice and 5 eggs. Mix it all up and bake for about an hour on 160 degrees celsius. Check if it is dry when you put a stick or needle in it, otherwise leave it a bit longer.

The next cake is a Flemmish recipe. I had never tried this before, but it is a recipe from the book I mentioned before. This is made with 250 gram plain flower, 250 gram real butter, 200 gram sugar, 3 eggs and raisins. Mix butter, sugar and eggs first, than add flour and the raisins, which had been standing in water, were siffed and rolled in flour, are added last. Bake for about an hour on 170 degrees celsius. Check if it is dry with a needle or small stick. If it's not dry yet, just leave it a little bit longer.

This is the baking form. It is so pretty, you can use it to decorate with too ; )

These are buttons for a mens' shirt in one of the local wears of the province of Zeeland.
They used this form to create the baking form.  I love it. This form is very popular in The Netherlands at the moment. There's lots of jewelry around with this form too, old and new.

Have a wonderful day.

Summer in October

Hi everyone,

first of all, thank you so much for your sweet comments and welcome to the new followers!!
It might be Autumn now, but it feels like Summer here in The Netherlands. We are having wonderful temperatures.

Here's a lovely dragonfly that comes for a visit now and then. It rests on the birdfeeder.
I love dragonflies !!

A beautiful butterfly on my asters.
The neighbourhood is getting more and more bare. Our neighbours have taken all the trees and plants out of their garden and replaced it with stone. There's only a little bunch of ornamental grass in their front garden and that is it.
My garden is becoming a harbor for all kinds of creatures and I love it. I planted a lot of bee and butterfly plants in my garden and the birds love to visit too.

A few weeks ago we went for an outing and found these wonderful Autumn fruits.

I finished my cardigan and all it needs are some buttons, which I have already bought.

I started on a sleeveless slipover. It is also made with leftover yarn I got from my mother.

Here's a close-up of the colours. For some reason it was flipped on the side.

I have been making jam too. Rhubarb-ginger jam and it is delicious. I got 5 jars, so that will last us for a while.

Have a wonderful day.

Busy bee

A picture made by my daughter.

It has been a while since my last post, but we have been a bit busy.
I celebrated my 50th birthday on August 28 and that was a long birthday weekend.
School started again and we have been trying to get back to normal since then, but there were painters in the kitchen, workers in the street in front of our home, the start of a pop choir we became a member of, so lots to do.
In between all those activities, the household and other chores still had to be done too.

Our kitchen was painted after we had water through the ceiling. There was such a lot of rain a few weeks ago, the water on the roof just couldn't go through the drainpipe fast enough, so it came into the kitchen. All is well now. Everything has dried and the walls and ceiling look crispy white again.
We will have to put back the  kitchen shelves and  herb cupboard, but after that it is finished.

Tomorrow a new minister will make his entry in our local church. We will sing with our little choir.
It will be a long service with speaches and music.

A new novel by Jan Karon is in the shops. I can hardly wait to go back to Mitford again.
I hope it is a nice book. I will have to wait and see.

This is the new book.

I will have to get busy in the garden again too. Bulbs have to be planted, there's some weeding to be done. Above you see a new plant I bought this afternoon. It is an echinacea. It has a wonderful colour.

I hope you're having a wonderful weekend too.

The end of Summer is near

Hi everyone,

chill is in the air and the smell has changed. The Summer is nearing its end.
I am looking forward to burning candles and wrapping myself in this throw I made last year.
It is so great to snuggle in.

I am also looking forward to soups and mashed potatoe dishes with veggies.
Homebaked pancakes and all things you don't normally eat that much in Summer. Well we don't. Summer is mostly for lighter dishes and salads.

We don't have a lot of apples on the trees this year. We had a lot last year.
I am looking forward to homemade applesauce of our own apples.

I hope you're having a wonderful end of Summer too.

Windy weather

Findus enjoying himself inside.

Today it seemed like Autumn had arrived. Hurricane Bertha blew across our country too. Fortunately not at hurricane power anymore, but with lots of wind and rain.
It was nice to stay in and hear the rain ticking on the windows.

I have been busy lately and not much on the computer. I have been baking, cooking and knitting. Reading was also one of the things that filled my time.
Sometimes days go by when I only check my mail and even not only that.
When the weather gets colder I will be back here, I'm sure.
Now I'm just enjoying Summer and all that comes with it.

I hope you're all having a great time too.

The name of the rose

Today there was a rose naming ceremony not far from where we live.
It is a rose farm where they sell and grow roses in a natural way.
The new rose was linked with the liberation of our province.
That is why there were all kinds of army vehicles on the farm.
The rose was grown by a Canadian rose breeder.

There were lots of wonderful roses to be seen too, like this one:

A Polish veteran was one of the people who were present to name the rose.
He was a tank driver and part of a devision that liberated the east side of our province.

The beautiful rose that was going to be named "Liberator".

"Baptising the rose".

There was a drummer and a bagpipe player too. I just love bagpipes.
Just before the naming of the rose, he played Amazing Grace, goosebumps !!!
This is another tune he played:

I hope you're having a wonderful day too.

Summertime

A bell pepper and gold berry.

A hardworking bee and my dahlia.

The lemonbalm.

The only little plum on my tree. I'm afraid there will be no harvest this year, because it is already starting to dry as you can see.

Some lovely apples on one of my apple trees.

Hanging baskets galore. Petunia's and million bells.

I'm knitting a cardigan. The colours you see are leftover yarns I got from my mom. Thank you very much mom ; )

A close-up of the lilac / purple colours. One of the colours has glitter in it, I love it !!

Have a wonderful day.
